Papers of Nicholas Philip Trist, 1643-1828, (bulk 1774-1828).

The collections contains items by or associated with Thomas Jefferson and his grandson-in-law Nicholas Philip Trist including notes on Virginia laws for Jefferson's collection of Virginia statutes; a letter, 1791 January 9, Martha Jefferson Carr to Martha Jefferson Randolph requesting that she visit Mrs. Eppes at Eppington; a page containing "A dozen canons of conduct in life" by Jefferson for Cornelia Randolph; and an extract by Trist from a letter 1821 February 26, Jefferson to Dabney Terrell. Also a page by Trist containing notes on thermometers and a table of weights, and a list of "prognostics of weather" copied from Jefferson's Farm Book; an address leaf to Jefferson, a copy by Trist of Jefferson's notes criticizing the writings of Baron d'Holbach; a page in Trist's hand headed "Sully on feeding horses. Franklin journal May 1827"; Trist's list of the contents of Jefferson's presses addressed to him at Monticello; and a page titled "Division of my day" by Trist. Also an account of Thomas Jefferson Randolph with Thomas Jefferson, 1823-1827, in Trist's hand with an explanatory note; a printed dinner invitation; and The Subjects Liberty: Set Forth in the Royall and Politique Power of England, 1643, with pencilled note stating Jefferson ownership.
